About the festival

The goal of the festival is to develop and institutionalize documentary filmmaking in Central Asia, and to support filmmakers exploring social reality, collective and personal memory, identity, and new forms of visual expression.

Selection criteria

UmutDoc selects bold and original documentary films that express an auteur vision of reality through formal and aesthetic approaches. The festival seeks works with a strong authorial voice and ambitious formal exploration intended for theatrical screening. All films are required to have English subtitles. The festival does not accept: television reports and journalistic investigations in traditional TV formats; corporate and promotional films; educational materials. There are no restrictions regarding age, subject matter, or format.
